    • Absa follows governance guidelines that meet the Botswana Stock Exchange listing requirements.
    • We continually train and retrain all our people in these guidelines.
    • We believe in and practise integrity in our business dealings. We also have a conduct risk manual that guides the way we do business.
    • We have independent non-executive directors who are chosen for their business ability and fearless integrity. They help ensure that Absa stays true to its values.
    • We are supervised by the Bank of Botswana, which regulates all banks in the country and keeps a close eye on their activities.

     

  • Our history in Botswana

    We are publicly listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange, which means that citizens of Botswana now have a stake in our Business.

    We opened our doors in Botswana in 1950 with our first branch in Lobatse. We expanded our network until 1975 when we became an incorporated company in Botswana.

    Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane
    Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane

    Managing Director

    Keabetswe was appointed Managing Director in April 2019.  She is a seasoned executive and served as the Chief Operating Officer before assuming her current role. She brings with her a wealth of banking experience and has built a high performing and diverse leadership team.  She has been instrumental in driving various transformational and cost-saving initiatives that contributed towards the overall performance of the bank. Prior to joining Absa in 2010, she worked as a consultant in South Africa for Falcorp Technologies, assigned to various projects for large entities, including Telkom South Africa, Absa Bank and Absa Group. She holds a BA in Information Technology from Tshwane University of Technology and an MBA.

    Leroy Klein

    Country Treasurer

    Leroy Klein joined the bank in 2008 as a Treasury Analyst. He has 9 years' experience in banking in middle and senior management roles within treasury middle and front office. The focus of his roles was liquidity and capital management. Prior to joining Absa Bank, he was a senior auditor at KPMG Botswana.

    He is a fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA- UK) and is a member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA). Leroy has successfully completed the Executive Development Programme with the University of Stellenbosch Business School and various other management and treasury courses over the period with Absa Bank Botswana.

    Titose Musa

    Head of Compliance 

    Titose is the Head of Compliance with 18 years’ banking experience. She has extensive experience in organisational strategic alignment, risk management, and performance and financial management change, as well as people management. She previously held several senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank including cluster head of operational risk for Southern Africa, head of operational risk and head of marketing and branch management.

    Titose holds a BA in Humanities from the University of Botswana and an MSc in Strategic Management from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom.

    Kealeboga N. Bojosi

    Head of Legal

    Kealeboga joined the bank as a legal adviser in 2012 and was appointed Head of Legal in 2015. Between 2000 and 2006, he was in private practice, specialising in commercial and civil litigation, corporate and labour law. While in private practice, he also taught Banking Law, Company Law and Contract Law at the University of Botswana. Prior to joining Absa Bank Botswana, he spent six years in the United Kingdom where, at various times, he was a senior lecturer in Law (Commercial Law) at a London university, as well as an international lawyer (finance) at an international commercial law firm in London. He was admitted as a solicitor of the supreme court of England and Wales in 2009. He holds an LLM from the University of Cambridge (UK) and a doctorate from Oxford University (UK).

    HR Director 

    Tumelo joined Absa Bank in 2007 as a Direct Sales Team Leader, subsequently joining Human Resources in various positions, including Training, Governance and employee relations before his most recent appointment as Head of HR Operations and Employee Relations.


    He holds a BSocSc (Public Administration and Political Science) from the University of Botswana. Tumelo completed a Barclays Leadership Development Programme and Management Development Programme from the University of Stellenbosch. He also possesses a Basic Labour Law Certificate from the University of Cape Town.

    Valeta Mthimkhulu

    Retail Director

    Valeta was appointed as Absa Bank Botswana Retail Director in January 2020. She brings significant value for the business with her diverse experience earned over a 20-year career in commercial banking, mostly in the areas of Retail and Business Banking, Corporate Affairs, Marketing, and Project Management. She has also served on various boards in Zimbabwe in the banking and not-for-profit sectors.

    Valeta previously worked for Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe for 19 years, 7 of which were as Banking Director and 6 before that in Marketing and Corporate Affairs. Prior to joining Absa Bank Botswana, Valeta worked for Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe as the Country Head of Retail Banking.
    She holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance from University of Stellenbosch Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Banking.

    Krishnan Menon

    Chief Operating Officer

    rishnan Menon joined Absa Bank Botswana as Chief Operating Officer in February 2020. Krishnan has been associated with the Banking industry for almost 18 years and has a wealth of experience in Retail and Corporate banking across multiple geographies and banks having worked in the United Kingdom (UK), Middle East, Asia and Africa regions.

    He has been with Barclays PLC group for over a decade having managed Corporate Operations for UK and subsequently being the Chief Administrative Officer of Barclays Shared Service Centre’s in India. In 2012, he then moved to Africa to lead the Operational Transformation for the region in which he was overseeing the utilisation of viable digital alternatives to traditional operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Calicut University, India.

    Ambassador Alfred Dube

    Independent Non-executive Director

    Alfred joined the bank in 2009. He is the managing director of Lazare Kaplan Botswana (Pty) Ltd., a subsidiary of Lazare Kaplan International Inc. of New York. A foreign policy specialist and career diplomat, Alfred began his career in 1978 and has held appointments as Botswana’s ambassador to different missions around the world, including the United Nations. He holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Essex, UK.

    Kgotlayarona Ramaphane

    Independent Non-executive Director

    Kgotlayarona joined the board in 2018. He has previously served as the CEO of the Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatisation Agency (PEEPA). He also served as head of performance monitoring of PEEPA, where his responsibilities included advising Government on performance and corporate governance issues of parastatals.

    He has over 30 years of experience in project and business management in public enterprises. Prior to his appointment to PEEPA, Kgotlayarona served in a number of high-profile positions in leading organisations, including Botswana Railways, University of Botswana and Botswana Technology Centre. He has also served as a board member of Botswana Privatisation Asset Holding.

    Kgotlayarona holds an MBA from Stirling University (United Kingdom), a BCom from University of Botswana and a certificate in high-performance leadership from University of Oxford. He is also a qualified PRINCE2 project management practitioner and a corporate governance practitioner.
